From Your Pastor

Dear Grace Family and Friends,

Happy Palm Sunday!  This is a day to remember Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.  The city was crowded with faithful Jews who had come to observe The Passover and make their sacrifice to God.  I’ve read many times of the crowds waving palm branches and shouting “Hosanna!!”  It’s an expression of adoration.  It literally translates “O Save!”  These people are willing to acknowledge Jesus as Messiah.  And they are ready to be delivered!  However, most simply wanted deliverance from Roman oppression.  And Jesus was just the man to do it.  They’ve seen His miracle working power and hope to be the beneficiaries of it.  The scene really came to life when we visited Israel.  We stood there on the Mount of Olives looking down on the old city.  Then we made our way down the winding road to the Kidron Valley and then up into the city gate.  The grade is steep coming off the mountain.  Yet I can just imagine the crowds lining the pathway.  They were filled with hope, excited about their prospects.  But those shouts of praise would soon become cries for crucifixion.  We don’t know who all was in either crowd but I expect there was overlap.  People are pretty fickle, you know.  As soon as they realized Jesus was not going to liberate them from the Romans they turned on Him.  One thing led to another and by midweek they are ready to put Him to death.  He wasn’t surprised.  It was necessary to procure our redemption.  And we were worth it to Him.   Aren’t you glad!  If nobody else in this world thinks you have value, rest assured that Jesus does.  We are all precious in His sight!  That’s worth celebrating!  I hope that is your intent today.  If so, you won’t be disappointed and Jesus Christ will be exalted!  I love you all and am honored to be your Pastor.  God bless you!
